Actor Thinle passes away

Apr 24, 2016- Popular Nepali actor Thinle Lhondup has passed away in Dolpa district, his home residence, on Sunday. He was a popular film actor and a social activist.

According to a local Ram Krishna Regmi, Thinle fell down along with a horse that he was travelling on at Chepka in Foksundo VDC while on way to his house in remote Saldang from district headquarters Dunai this morning.

The donkeys arriving from upper part pushed his horse. The horse died on the spot while Thinle succumbed after few moments, said District Police Office DSP Dhrubaraj Raut, based on the information provided to him by the locals.

The 72-year-old actor was suffering from stomach cancer.

Thinle casted in Himalaya, popularly known as Caravan, a 1999 adventure film directed by renowned French director Eric Valli. The film was nominated for a Best Foreign Film Award at the Oscars in 1999.

Thinle has also successfully marked his presence in some popular Nepali music videos including Nepathya’s hit ‘Sa Karnali’.

Thinle met Valli in Dolpo in 1981 where he was a village head then. Valli described Thinle in one of his interviews as a person with great sense of humour.

Thinle was living in Dolpa district headquarters Dunai. He had been travelling to Kathmandu frequently for cancer treatment.
